What is my purpose for this position?
As the Access Coordinator, my main role is to work in conjunction with the SPACES APSA Community LEAP (Learning and Empowerment Academic Program) Access Intern in developing and strengthening the K-12 programs and events that come out of LEAP. In providing tools and knowledge to underrepresented and under-resourced students in the greater San Diego community, I hope to empower these students through affirming their identities and validating their own forms of self-expression to reconstruct their perceptions of higher education as attainable and rightfully theirs. Additionally, I believe that my purpose extends beyond this position, in that I hope to act as a support system for anyone and everyone who seeks it, lend an ear or a shoulder when needed, and help guide others towards their dreams and goals. Driven by my passions for educational equity, social justice, bridging art and activism, and a love for community building, my purpose is to serve the community, humbled as I believe to be an eternal learner, and continue to work hard so that I can give back for everything that my parents sacrificed in order to put me through the education system. I am a friend, a daughter, a sister, a lover, a fighter, and an artist – I would like to share a quote that continues to resonate with me to this day: “I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.” ― Audre Lorde
