Retention Programs and Services
Mxntor/Mxntee Program
APSA’s Mxntor/Mxntee Program is a mentorship program designed to assist in the social, personal, and academic adaptation into UCSD and APSA by pairing new APSA members with outstanding APSA returners who act as mxntors/femtors/qtors throughout the mxntee’s academic year or even longer. Since this is a yearly program, with applications opening in the fall, this is a great way to meet new folks and bond with your mxntorship cohort. Pairings and mxntorship families provide the mxntee more resources and support. This program has been in existence for a while and has been revamped and improved throughout the years, proving to be successful for both the mxntees and mxntors.
The purpose of having a mentoring relationship in college is to assist students with the challenges associated with the first year college experience or transitioning into a new organization such as APSA. This program provides academic and personal support for participating students. Relationships are built by matching mxntors and mxntees through the application process, which varies every year. This program is Co-Coordinated by the APSA RISE Coordinator and APSA Board Retention Coordinator.

APSA Career and Academic Focused Exploration Program (APSA CAFE)
APSA C.A.F.E. initiated in 2018 by APSA RISE Coordinator, Whitney La, and APSA Retention Coordinator, Kelly Fung, as a way to address APSA's academic component to be more catered towards undergraduates. In addition to offering resources surrounding school and academic services, APSA CAFE initiates a series of workshops and events throughout the year to help undergraduates explore different career pathways and connect to current APSA alumni in different fields. The hope and goal is to grow APSA CAFE to expand its reach and programs through student initiated and student run programming.
APSA Retention In Solidarity and Empowerment (RISE) Committee
APSA RISE Committee, headed by the APSA Community RISE Coordinator is a unique way to get involved with retention work, mxntorship program, APSA, and SPACES. Through this committee, members have the opportunity to create student initiated holistic retention programs under SPACES/RISE Coordinator and learn the ins and outs of programming. In addition, this is a great way to develop leadership skills and see if joining APSA Board or any other leadership position is right for you. If you are passionate about the AAPI community, programming, retention, and social justice issues, this may be for you! Applications to join open up once a year.
